Our Philosophy

"Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and strength, use it to create".
Dr. Maria Montessori
Infants (12 mo to 24 mo)

Our program is designed to provide your infant's day with a schedule that is regular enough to be predictable but flexible enough to meet the individual needs of each child.  At this age they are creating relationships and forming trust with their caregiver while exploring the world around them.

Each part of their day will offer learning opportunities meant for the growth of their emerging skills.  Even while playing with toys your infant is learning new skills, including cause and effect when hitting a ball or about movement and space when he/she rolls a toy car.

Mixed-age grouping is a smaller version of what the real world is like. As they grow in our program, infants are inspired by the older children and are able to problem solve by watching other children interact and by receiving help from other children directly or indirectly. Every child has the opportunity to shine depending on his or her strengths.

2 to 4 Year-Olds - Preschool

Our innovative program with Spanish Immersion engages them with the early learning fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to kindergarten, with a rich diversity of music, art, and dramatic play.

Children learn by doing, getting messy, investigating their questions, and problem solving with their friends. They learn by playing games, using their imaginations, expressing their emotions, creating, and exploring the world around them.

Areas of development include emotional, social, intellectual and physical growth, with an emphasis on self-esteem all while having fun and learning Spanish.

Our program focuses on the ten critical early literacy and math skills. Early literacy: discourse, a rich vocabulary and background knowledge, phonological awareness, book and print rules and letter knowledge, and the convincing body of research on relationship-based adult-child interactions which shows that children learn best when adults are sensitive and responsive to a child's social-emotional needs as well as care about their educational goals and practice. Math skills include: comparison and classification, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, numbers and operations, logic and patterns.

Besides early literacy and math skills, our curriculum sets the stage for visual arts, music and dance, dramatic play, life science, earth science, physical science, self concept, and self direction. With our experience, we are able to extend these lessons into the children's play. The classroom is a child's third teacher. The learning tools in our classroom are chosen carefully and with purpose in mind. Our classroom is separated into learning centers. Materials and toys are changed weekly/monthly as our studies/themes change. We are very intentional with the materials and toys set up. Each day the children are involved in a variety of lessons focused on a theme. It is our job to nurture their excitement for learning by creating developmentally appropriate, engaging, and challenging lessons and activities so they become life long learners.

Our learning centers are: Dramatic Play Center, Puppet Center, Block Center, Math Center, Science Center, Sensory Center, Light Table Center, Library, Magnetic Board Center, Puzzles Center, and ABC Center.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Maria Magallanes

My daughter loved her time at First Steps Learning Home, which truly became her second home and family. Liz has done a great job of creating a warm, safe, and structured place for children to learn, play, and grow. My daughter started there at 16 months, and on her very first day felt so comfortable and welcomed, that as soon as she saw the inside of FSLH and felt its warmth, she walked right in and didn't even look back to say goodbye! Not to say there weren't some tough days, as it can be challenging for young kids to understand that parents have to work, but Liz and her staff are all so loving and nurturing, and keep the children so engaged with fun learning activities and play time, that the children, much like mine, quickly adapt. Fast forward through the infant/ toddler programs to her recent "graduation" from the FSLH preschool program at age 4, and my daughter knows her letters, numbers , and knows how to write her name-- she is so ready for TK! I should mention that Liz and her staff also provide instruction in Spanish, so my daughter was able to learn and practice two languages while there. Also provided are two delicious and healthy meals (breakfast and lunch) and an afternoon snack, which my daughter and her FSLH friends enjoyed, but was also such a huge help and relief for me, as a busy single working Mom, not to have to worry about preparing those meals. As a first time Mom, I also felt very fortunate to have the support of someone like Liz with years of experience as a Mom, educator, and a daycare provider…and so I feel I learned a lot from FSLH, as did my daughter. Most importantly, and the best part of First Steps Learning Home, is that the staff always made my daughter feel so loved and special, from the moment she walked through the door every morning at drop off, until it was time to say goodbye at pick-up. Thank you, Ms. Liz, Ms. Alejandra, Ms. Paola and all of the wonderful FSLH staff throughout the years that made my daughter's daycare/preschool experience such a success and one that we will always cherish.

We were so lucky to find a spot at First Steps Learning. My son was so loved by Miss Liz and Miss Alejandra and asks about them regularly. Miss Liz provides healthy meals and a clean, safe, loving, fun environment for children. She is communicative and honest with parents, and goes above and beyond for families on holidays and special occasions with sweet little gifts and performances by the kids. I highly recommend this school to any parent. If you are hesitant about enrolling your little one in TK, this school will help them get ready for kindergarten.

My son and I were thrilled with our experience at First Steps Learning over the past 2.5 years. From day one, it was evident that this daycare was more than just a place to leave my child—it’s a nurturing environment that felt like an extension of my own family.

Miss Liz and Miss Alejandra have been exceptional in their care and attention. Their genuine affection for each child is apparent in everything they do. They create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where each child feels valued and loved. Their dedication to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment is truly commendable.

The family-like feel of the daycare is something I particularly cherish. There’s a palpable sense of community and connection among the staff, children, and parents. It’s this environment that has made my son's time here so enriching and joyful.

My son and I do not speak Spanish so I can’t overlook the incredible benefit of my son becoming bilingual thanks to the immersive language experience at First Steps Learning. The language-rich environment provided by Miss Liz has played a crucial role in his language development, and I couldn’t be happier with his progress.

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better daycare experience for my son. First Steps Learning has exceeded my expectations in every way, and I am grateful for the positive impact it has had on my sons growth and development. If you’re looking for a place where your child will be cared for, cherished, and encouraged to learn and thrive, I highly recommend First Steps Learning.

We miss you FSL!!!
